- Accreditation Board of Engineering
Education (ABET)
ABET, Inc. is the recognized accreditor for college
and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and
technology, is a federation of 30 professional and technical societies
representing these fields. Among the most respected accreditation
organizations in the U.S., ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance
in higher education for over 70 years. ABET currently accredits some 2,700
programs at over 550 colleges and universities nationwide. Over 1,500
dedicated volunteers participate annually in ABET activities.

American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES)
AISES is a
national, nonprofit organization which nurtures building of community by
bridging science and technology with traditional Native values. Through its
educational programs, AISES provides opportunities for American Indians and
Alaska Natives to pursue studies in science, engineering, and technology
arenas. The trained professionals then become technologically informed
leaders within the Indian community. AISES' ultimate goal is to be a
catalyst for
the advancement of American Indians and Native Alaskans as they seek to
become self-reliant and self-determined members of society.
- American Ceramic Society (ACerS): Education
The American
Ceramic Society (ACerS) is a 100-year-old non-profit organization that
serves the informational, educational, and professional needs of the
international ceramics community. The Society's more than 7,500 members
comprise a wide variety of individuals and interest groups that include
engineers, scientists, researchers, manufacturers, plant personnel,
educators, students, marketing and sales professionals, and others in related
materials disciplines. ACerS provides members and subscribers in 80
countries with access to periodicals and books, meetings and expositions,
and on-line technical information. Their education site includes information
on ceramic courses, professional education, colleges and universities with
ceramic programs and a link to the Ceramic Educational
Council.
- American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
(AIAA): Students and Educators
For nearly 75 years, AIAA has been the principal voice and technical
society devoted to continuing contributions and global leadership in the
aerospace community. Their education site includes online resources for
tomorrow's pioneers, resources for teachers and students, the Kid's Place
and a history of aerospace.
- American
Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE): Education
Founded in 1908, AIChE is a professional association of
more than 40,000 members that provides leadership in advancing
the chemical engineering profession. AIChE fosters and disseminates
chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and
personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its
members to address societal needs throughout the world. Their
education site includes online resources, publications, conferences, and
resources for students & young engineers. They have recently entered a
partnership with ASME for continuing education and CD-
ROMS.

Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum
Engineers (AIME)
AIME was founded in 1871 by 22 mining engineers in Wilkes-Barre,
PA. Just as when it was founded, the goal of AIME today is to advance the
knowledge of engineering and the arts and sciences involved in the
production and use of minerals, metals, materials and energy resources,
while disseminating significant developments in these areas of technology.
Today the memberships of the AIME Member Societies total nearly 90,000
and include some of the most important, influential and innovative figures in
the engineering and scientific communities.

The American
Society for Engineering Education is a nonprofit
member association, founded in 1893, dedicated to
promoting and improving engineering and
technology education.

PRISM Magazine
Readers include faculty, administrators, and graduate
students in all disciplines of engineering and engineering
technology education as well as industry and government
representatives who are members of ASEE. Features, columns,
and departments provide useful and timely information in these
specific areas: instructional methods, innovative curricula,
lifelong learning, research opportunities, trends, and
developments, education and research projects with government
and industry, outreach activities that encourage youth to pursue
studies and careers in engineering and engineering technology,
initiatives that increase the participation of women and minority

- ASEE Journal of Engineering Education (JEE)
JEE is a peer-reviewed international journal
published quarterly by the American Society for
Engineering Education. It serves as an archival
record of scholarly research in engineering
education.
- ASEE: Profiles of Engineering Colleges
The online profiles provides detailed profiles of U.S. and
Canadian schools offering undergraduate and graduate
engineering, as well as engineering technology programs with the
intent of preparing prospective students for their future
education in engineering. The descriptions of institutions
represented in this directory allow students to compare schools
using a range of characteristics from location and degrees offered
to student appointments and research expenditures.

Published monthly by the American Society for
Engineering Education, this newsletter is free to

Society for Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-
Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE): Education and
Publications
ASHRAE's mission is to advance the arts and sciences of
heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and related
human factors to serve the evolving needs of the public and
ASHRAE members. The education and publications site includes

Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers, today's ASME is a 120,000-member professional
organization focused on technical, educational and research
issues of the engineering and technology community. ASME
conducts one of the world's largest technical publishing
operations, holds numerous technical conferences worldwide, and
offers hundreds of professional development courses each year.
ASME sets internationally recognized industrial and
manufacturing codes and standards that enhance public safety.
ASME's Education and Training site provides resources on
products, publications, education & training workshops,
professional development, communities & groups, career center,
conferences, news, and pre-college education.
- Anita Borg Institute of Women and
Technology (IWT)
The two-halves of the Anita Borg Institute mission;
to increase the impact of women on all aspects of technology and to
increase the positive impact of technology on the world's women, are
inextricably linked. As connections between technology and social impact
are increasingly demonstrated more women at all levels will be pulled into
technology. The Institute accomplishes its mission through programs
which build this connection, celebrate and highlight the success of women

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM):
Education
Founded in 1947, ACM is a major force in advancing the skills of
information technology professionals and students worldwide. Today, our
80,000 members and the public turn to ACM for the industry's leading
Portal to Computing Literature, authoritative publications and pioneering
conferences, providing leadership for the 21st century. The education site
contains information on the education board, accreditation

Biomedical Engineering Society (BES): Accreditation
In response to a manifest need to provide a society that gave
equal status to representatives of both biomedical and engineering
interests, the Biomedical Engineering Society was incorporated in
1968. The purpose of the Society is: "To promote the increase of
biomedical engineering knowledge and its utilization." The
accreditation corner contains information on the accreditation of
biomedical and bioengineering programs.
- Chemical
Engineering Education Journal (CEE)
CEE is a quarterly journal serving the needs of the
international community of educators in chemical
engineering. Published in February, May, August, and
November of each year for the past thirty-nine years,
Chemical Engineering Education (CEE) is the premier
archival journal for chemical engineering
educators.

Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA): Education
CSTA is a membership organization that supports and promotes the
teaching of computer science and other computing disciplines by providing

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE): Education Society
The IEEE is a non-profit, technical professional association of more
than 360,000 individual members in approximately 175 countries. Through
its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging
from computer engineering, biomedical technology and
telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer
electronics, among others. The Education Society strives for the
advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and computer

Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS)
JETS is a national non-profit education organization that has served
the pre-college engineering community for over 50 years. Through competitions
and programs, JETS serves over 30,000 students and 2,000 teachers, and holds
programs on 150 college campuses each year. JETS promotes interest in
engineering, science, mathematics, and technology, and is dedicated to
providing real-world engineering and problem-solving experience to high
school students. JETS programs challenge students to discover engineering
in high school. JETS puts students in touch with engineers, shows them what
engineers do, and demonstrates how the math and science concepts they are
learning in class are applied in real life to engineering problems. JETS
programs and resources get students involved with engineering and preparing
for the future.

Materials Research Society (MRS): Connections
The Materials Research Society is a not-for-profit organization
which brings together scientists, engineers and research managers from
industry, government, academia and research laboratories to share
findings in the research and development of new materials of technological
importance. Founded in 1973, MRS now consists of more than 13,000
members from the United States -- as well as over 50 other
countries.
- MentorNet: The E-Mentoring
Network for Engineering and Science
MentorNet is a nonprofit e-mentoring network that addresses
the retention and success of those in engineering, science and
Mathematics, particularly women. Founded in 1997, MentorNet
provides highly motivated students from many of the world's top
colleges and universities with positive, one-on-one, email-based
mentoring relationships with mentors from industry and academia. In
addition, the MentorNet Community provides opportunities to connect
with others from around the world who are interest in diversifying
engineering and science.

Foundation's Engineering Education Coalitions
The NSF-funded Engineering Education Coalitions Program
was developed to stimulate bold, innovative and comprehensive
models for systemic reform of undergraduate engineering education
and to increase the retention of students, especially women and
those minorities underrepresented in engineering.

NSF Engineering Education Programs Home Page
The National Science
Foundation's Program in Engineering Education encourages the
integration of engineering research and education to accelerate technological
and educational innovation and improve the quality and diversity of
engineering graduates entering the technical workforce. This NSF program
encourages partnerships that infuse both research and education with new
knowledge from multiple disciplines, take advantage of new understanding of
how students learn, and focus on engineered systems. The objective is to
graduate engineering leaders with a global outlook and the ability to adapt to
the rapidly evolving technical environment in industry, academe, and society.
It also supports the active involvement of K-12 teachers and community
college faculty in engineering research in order to bring knowledge of

National Society of Black Engineers
NSBE's mission is to
increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel

more than 10,000 members, NSBE is comprised of more than 270 chapters on
college and university campuses, 75 Alumni Extension chapters nationwide and 75
Pre-College chapters.

National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE):
Education
The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is the only
engineering society that represents individual engineering professionals
and licensed engineers (PEs) across all disciplines. Founded in 1934,
NSPE strengthens the engineering profession by promoting engineering
licensure and ethics, enhancing the engineer image, advocating and
protecting PEs' legal rights at the national and state levels, publishing
news of the profession, providing continuing education opportunities, and
much more. NSPE serves some 60,000 members and the public through
53 state and territorial societies and more than 500

The Society of Automotive Engineers has more than 84,000 members -

(SHPE)
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was
founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed
by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national
organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic
community.

Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME): Training
SME is the world's leading resource to advance manufacturing

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE): Energy Education
SPE is a member-run organization. Members formulate policies and programs,
and carry out much of the work in seeing that goals are met and extended. SPE
standing and ad hoc committees oversee the peer-review process, support
continuing education efforts, select award recipients, plan meetings,
coordinate technical interest groups, select future publications,
provide input to JPT, guide SPE.org, and promote the engineering profession and its many disciplines that encompass the E&P industry.

Tomorrow's Professor Mailing List
Mailing List with postings twice weekly, usually on Monday and
Thursday mornings, Pacific Standard Time. The Mailing List seeks to
foster a diverse, world-wide teaching and learning ecology among its
over 21,000 subscribers at over 600 institutions and organizations in
over 108 countries around the world. To date there have been over
600 postings under the following categories: academy, graduate
students and postdocs, academic careers, teaching and learning, and
research.
International Engineering Education Communities
- EJEE:
European Journal of Engineering Education
Published quarterly, EJEE examines the economic, cultural,
and social factors which influence the education of engineers in
different societies and provides a forum in which teachers in
engineering schools, institutions and industry can share accounts of
good practice and discuss methodology . Technological change
constantly creates new demands on both engineers and the
educational system that produces them.
This journal contributes to the development and improvement of
engineering education necessary to meet those demands.
Each issue, with its specially appointed Guest Editor, concentrates
on a theme which is of general value to everyone involved in
engineering education and which also has particular applications
within the different engineering disciplines.

Global Journal of Engineering Education
The mission of the UNESCO International Centre for
Engineering Education is the empowerment of developing nations to
achieve technical development and economic progress. Its modus
operandi is both to facilitate the exchange between institutions and
individuals of information, expertise and research on textbooks,
engineering teaching courseware, software, teaching methodologies
and equipment utilized in engineering education, and to transfer this
knowledge from developed to developing countries. In its role as a
clearinghouse of engineering education information and material, the
UICEE has established the Global Journal of Engineering
Education (GJEE) with the principal objective of providing the
international engineering education community with a forum for
discussion and the exchange of information on engineering
education and industrial training at tertiary level.

Education
This journal serves as an international interdisciplinary
forum of reference for engineering education. It provides a
balance between papers on developments in educational
methods technology, case studies, laboratory applications,
new theoretical approaches, educational policy and survey
papers is aimed for. The goal is to offer comprehensive
coverage of new education schemes and techniques makes
the journal a unique source of ideas for engineering
educators who are keen to keep abreast of latest
developments in educational applications in all fields of
engineering.
- International Network for
Engineering Education and Research
A global networking, professional organization formed by the world
engineering community to promote mutual progress in teaching and
learning through international cooperation, iNEER helps in developing
international understanding and partnership through information sharing
and networking. The widening iNEER network of educators and
researchers covers 98 countries, and is linked through the iNEER website,
archival publications, electronic communication system and various
conferences, workshops, and retreats.

Geoscience Education
AGI is a nonprofit federation of 42 geoscientific and
professional associations that represents more than 100,000
geologists, geophysicists, and other earth scientists. Founded in 1948,
AGI provides information services to geoscientists, serves as a voice of
shared interests in our profession, plays a major role in strengthening
geoscience education, and strives to increase public awareness of the
vital role the geosciences play in society's use of resources and
interaction with the environment. The AGI education site includes online
curricular resources, professional development, conferences, awards,
scholarships, career information, and links to standards.

American Geophysical Union (AGU): Education
AGU is a worldwide scientific community that advances,
through unselfish cooperation in research,
the understanding of Earth and space for the benefit of humanity. The
AGU education site includes education briefs and information on the
heads/chairs of earth science departments, research grants, and student
travel grants.

American Institute of Physics (AIP): Education
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a 501(c)(3)
membership corporation chartered in New York State in 1931 for the
purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge
of physics and its application to human welfare. The AIP education site
contains information for students and educators, as well as information on
academic resources and the annual world year of physics.

American Mathematical Society (AMS): Outreach
Founded in 1888 to further mathematical research and
scholarship, the American Mathematical Society fulfills its
mission through programs and services that promote
mathematical research and its uses, strengthen mathematical
education, and foster awareness and appreciation of
mathematics and its connections to other disciplines and to
everyday life. The Society has over 28,000 individual members
and 550 institutional members in the United States and around
the world. Programs and services for AMS members and the
mathematical community include professional programs such
as meetings and conferences, surveys, employment services;
publications including Mathematical Reviews (a database of
nearly 2 million items covering over 60 years of mathematics
literature), journals, and over 3,000 books in print; support for
Young Scholars Programs and the Mathematical Moments

American Nuclear Society (ANS)
Public Information
The American Nuclear Society serves its members in their efforts
to develop and safely apply nuclear science and technology for public
benefit through knowledge exchange, professional development, and
enhanced public understanding. The ANS public information site contains
news & events, resources, career information as well as sites geared towards
teachers and students.

The Math Forum is a leading center for mathematics and
mathematics education on the Internet. Operating under Drexel's
School of Education, the mission is to provide resources, materials,
activities, person-to-person interactions, and educational products
and services that enrich and support teaching and learning in an
increasingly technological world. Math Forum's online community
includes teachers, students, researchers, parents, educators, and
citizens at all levels who have an interest in math and math
education.

OSA promotes the generation, application, archiving and worldwide
dissemination of knowledge in optics and photonics.

Society for Biomaterials
The vision of the Society For Biomaterials is to promote the discipline of
biomaterials and their uses in medical and surgical devices including
synthetic, natural, and biologically sourced materials. It is the premier
Society For Biomaterials education, and the leader in dissemination of
biomaterials research for the benefit of humankind.

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
(SIAM): Educational Resources
Problems in applied mathematics and computational science arise in
companies that manufacture aircraft, automobiles, engines, textiles,
computers, communications systems, chemicals, drugs, and a host of other
industrial and consumer products, and also in various service and consulting
organizations. They also arise in many research initiatives of the federal
government, such as those in global change, biotechnology, and advanced
materials. SIAM fosters the development of the methodologies needed in these
application areas. It is fitting that the acronym SIAM also represents the
society's slogan-Science and Industry Advance with
Mathematics.
