National Science Foundation Engineering Education Coalitions
The National Science Foundation Engineering Education Coalitions Program was developed to stimulate bold, innovative and comprehensive models for systemic reform of undergraduate engineering education and to increase the retention of students, especially women and those minorities underrepresented in engineering.
The Engineering Education Coalitions share the following common program level goals: (1) to design and implement comprehensive, systemic, and structural reform of undergraduate engineering education; (2) to provide tested alternative curricula and new instructional delivery systems that improve the quality of undergraduate engineering education; (3) to create substantive resource linkages among engineering baccalaureate producing and precollege institutions; and (4) to increase the number of baccalaureate engineering degrees awarded, especially to women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities.
Although NSF is no longer providing funding for the Engineering Education Coalitions Program their impact has been long lasting. Click on the Coalition icons below to find more about their contributions.
In addition to curricular reform and outreach innovations, one of the lasting contributions of the Synthesis Coalition is the development of the NEEDS - Engineering Education Digital Library System. Originally designed for higher education faculty, NEEDS has merged with the K-12 TeachEngineering digital library to form the K-Gray Engineering Pathway with resources for K-12 Pre-Engineering Education, Engineering Education, and Professional Continuing Education. The Engineering Pathway has cataloged all of the resources of the Engineering Education Coalitions program and much more.
Visit the Engineering Pathway and discover high quality engineering education and computer science education resources for teaching and learning. And, for the latest in your own discipline, view the pages for each Disciplinary Community.
